Kamala Harris Jumbles Pledge of Allegiance

Vice President Kamala Harris botched the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of the 119th Congress.

“Please join me in pledging allegiance to our flag,” Harris told senators prior to swearing them in. “I pledge allegiance to the United States — of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Harris omitted the words “the flag.”

The correct pledge is: “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

Social media users condemned the flub. One X user said of the fail, “What a joke.” Another said, “Thank God Trump won.”

The situation mirrors previous instances where Harris was accused of making “word salads.”

CBS News’ “60 Minutes” was accused of editing its interview with Kamala Harris last year to portray her in a favorable light and make her statement more concise. In a clip from the interview, host Bill Whitaker and Harris discussed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Harris said, “The work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by or a result of many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region.” When the interview aired, audiences noticed that Harris’ answer had been edited to: “We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”
