Vice President Kamala Harris has been making the rounds at holiday gatherings, but her recent appearances have sparked concerns over her demeanor and coherence. During a Christmas party at the Naval Observatory on Wednesday evening, Harris raised eyebrows with her tipsy-sounding remarks and signature cackling.
At one point, Harris exclaimed, “I give you permission that if you are going to someone’s house who doesn’t know how to cook, bring your own dish!” The awkward laughter and delivery led many to speculate she might have been indulging in more than just holiday cheer.
This appearance follows a string of events where Harris has exhibited similar behavior. Last week, during a speech to a group of Democrat activists and influencers, she appeared to slur her words while urging them to keep up the fight despite the crushing election defeat. “Please do not let your spirit or your purpose be defeated,” she said, cackling through her message of encouragement.
Harris, who hosted another party at the Naval Observatory last weekend, seemed to struggle through her remarks. “Try and get some good food on the table, you know and you go to other peoples’ house…” she said, trailing off awkwardly.
Since her landslide loss to President Trump last month, Harris has largely stayed out of the spotlight, resurfacing only for sporadic holiday events. In a recent video message to her supporters, Harris sounded similarly disjointed as she reflected on the election loss. “The outcome of this election obviously is not what we wanted. It is not what we worked so hard for,” she said. “I know this is an uncertain time… and it feels heavy.”
The vice president’s bizarre and often rambling statements during these appearances have drawn renewed scrutiny, especially as they remind voters of the issues that plagued her campaign. Despite burning through more than $1.5 billion in just 100 days, Harris suffered a resounding defeat.
As she continues to make public appearances, the erratic nature of her recent speeches leaves many wondering whether she is truly focused on the work ahead or simply trying to navigate the aftermath of her political failure.
