The Department of Justice (DOJ) under Attorney General Pam Bondi has redirected funds previously allocated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives toward law enforcement efforts. This move aligns with President Donald Trump’s administration’s focus on public safety and merit-based practices.
A DOJ official stated, “The Department of Justice under Pam Bondi will not waste discretionary funds on DEI passion projects that do not make Americans safer.” The official emphasized that the department will prioritize resources to “get criminals off the streets, seize drugs, and in some cases, fund programs that deliver a tangible impact for victims of crime.”
On her first day in office, Attorney General Bondi directed the termination of all DEI programs within the DOJ. She also mandated the removal of DEI references in training programs and refocused hiring and promotion guidelines solely on merit. Bondi stated, “We will continue working day in and day out to deliver on President Trump’s Make America Safe Agenda.”
In addition to reallocating funds, the DOJ has dismissed several lawsuits related to DEI policies. These lawsuits, initiated under the previous administration, challenged hiring practices in police and fire departments. “American communities deserve firefighters and police officers to be chosen for their skill and dedication to public safety – not to meet DEI quotas,” Bondi commented concerning the case dismissals.
