Jimmy Kimmel Breaks Down on Air, Calls Trump Win a ‘Terrible Day’ for America

On Wednesday, late-night host Jimmy Kimmel became visibly emotional over Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election, describing the day as a “terrible day” for the entire nation, including those who supported Trump. Known for his frequent criticism of Trump, Kimmel has often used his platform to deliver sharp monologues aimed at the former—and now future—president.

“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech,” Kimmel said, addressing his largely liberal Hollywood audience with tears in his eyes.

In his emotional monologue, Kimmel continued, saying, “I’ve been trying to come up with something positive, the best I can come up with is we’ve been through this once before, and yes, this time it’s probably gonna be worse, maybe a lot worse.” His words reflected a sense of foreboding about the return of a Trump administration.

Kimmel also expressed frustration with Trump’s supporters, suggesting they lacked “common sense” and hinted that their priorities differ significantly from his own. “I’m disappointed, I know a lot of you are too,” he said. “I thought common sense would prevail. I’m so stupid, I always think it’s gonna, but for a lot of people, this just isn’t important. It’s not high on their list.” He added, “It was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him, and guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too. You just don’t realize it yet.”

Kimmel’s comments went viral online, with clips of his teary reaction spreading widely on social media.

Earlier, Kimmel drew attention for a controversial joke suggesting Trump supporters should “vote late,” saying, “If you want to vote for Trump, vote late. Vote very late. Do your voting on Thursday or maybe Friday.” His jab echoed similar statements made in jest during previous elections, but also highlighted a recent case where a young man, Douglass Mackey, was sentenced under the Biden-Harris DOJ for making a similar joke aimed at Clinton supporters.

Kimmel’s reaction and criticism have sparked mixed reactions, continuing the conversation on late-night comedy’s role in political discourse.
