The former model, famous for her style, has experienced a spectacular snub as the US First Lady made a surprise appearance.
US First Lady Jill Biden is featured on the cover of iconic fashion magazine Vogue, in a move that many see as a slap in the face to her predecessor Melania Trump.
Overnight, US Vogue released its August edition front cover, along with a lengthy profile titled “A First Lady for All of Us: On The Road With Dr Jill Biden”.
While Dr Biden discussed all things from her husband’s newly announced $US1.8 trillion ($A2.3 trillion) social welfare package to the country’s vaccination program and even her recent choice to wear fishnet stockings, many of her detractors couldn’t get past one thing.
Some pointed out that Donald Trump’s wife, former first lady Melania Trump, was snubbed from the magazine during her four years in the White House.
Before Dr Biden’s appearance in Vogue, a first lady hadn’t appeared since Michelle Obama.
Hillary Clinton was the first presidential spouse to make the cover and Michelle Obama was chosen a whopping three times while her husband was in power.
However, former model Melania Trump never made an appearance.
As a former model, Mrs Trump has appeared in mastheads including Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity, and GQ (in which she posed nude in a 2000 photo shoot).
She is well-known for her White House fashion style from $70,000 designer brand coats to political messages – including wearing a jacket that read “I really don’t care, do you?” while visiting an immigration centre in 2018.
The ex-first lady, 51, has been on the Vogue cover before, but not in a presidential capacity.
In 2005, she was featured following her marriage to Donald Trump.
The Trumps both appeared to be angered by the Vogue snub during the presidency.
In a secret recording made by White House aide Stephanie Winston Wolkoff in 2018, Melania Trump raged about the magazine.
“Vogue said like, oh, we want to do a profile. Profile? F**k you, profile. I don‘t need no profile. Yeah, what I need another profile?“ Melania Trump was recorded saying.
“It might be a cover. I’m like, might be a cover? I don’t give a f**k about Vogueand any magazine.”
However, officially, the White House denied it.
A spokesperson said at the time: “To be on the cover of Vogue doesn’t define Mrs Trump; she’s been there, done that long before she was first lady.
“Her role as first lady of the United States and all that she does is much more important than some superficial photo shoot and cover,” she added.
Clearly, Donald Trump didn’t agree.
In December last year, Donald Trump shared a tweet from far-right publication Breitbart News which read: “The elitist snobs in the fashion press have kept the most elegant first lady in American history off the covers of magazines for four consecutive years.”
The then-president added that his first lady was “the greatest of all time”.
