JD Vance: Israel-Iran Ceasefire Marks ‘Reset Moment’ for Middle East

Vice President JD Vance described the recent ceasefire between Israel and Iran as a pivotal opportunity for lasting peace in the Middle East. Following President Trump’s announcement of the agreement, Vance emphasized the potential for a new chapter in regional relations.

“I think the president really hit the reset button and said, ‘Look, let’s actually produce long-term peace for the region,'” Vance stated during a Fox News interview. He highlighted the dismantling of Iran’s nuclear capabilities and conventional missile systems as significant achievements, noting that Iran now has a chance to pursue a peaceful path.

The ceasefire, brokered with assistance from Qatar, follows a 12-day conflict initiated by Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, including Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. In retaliation, Iran launched missiles at a U.S. base in Qatar, which were intercepted without causing casualties.

President Trump announced the phased ceasefire on Truth Social, stating that Iran would begin the ceasefire, followed by Israel 12 hours later, culminating in an official end to the conflict within 24 hours.

Vance underscored the importance of this development, asserting that the destruction of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure significantly delays its ability to develop nuclear weapons. He expressed optimism that this ceasefire could serve as a foundation for long-term stability in the region.
