JD Vance Aligns with Trump: U.S. Should Stay ‘Out of’ Syria Conflict

Vice President-elect JD Vance reinforced President-elect Donald Trump’s position on avoiding involvement in Syria, declaring that the ongoing conflict is “not our fight.” In a post on X, Vance echoed Trump’s remarks, emphasizing the need for the United States to focus on its own priorities and avoid entanglement in Syria.

The statements follow reports of the collapse of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Opposition forces have reportedly taken control of major cities and are advancing toward Damascus. Trump commented on Truth Social, describing the situation in Syria as “a mess” and reiterating that the U.S. should steer clear.

Trump pointed to the downfall of Assad’s regime as a culmination of long-standing issues. He noted that Russia, a key ally of Assad, is unable to provide support due to significant losses in Ukraine, including an estimated 600,000 soldiers. Trump also recalled former President Obama’s failure to enforce his “red line” policy in Syria, leading to increased Russian involvement.

“Syria is a mess but is not our friend,” Trump stated. “The United States should have nothing to do with it. This is not our fight. Let it play out. Do not get involved.”

Reports indicate that Assad may have fled to Russia, which had bolstered his regime for over a decade. Kremlin sources suggest that Assad sought asylum after his regime collapsed under pressure from opposition forces and Hezbollah’s weakening in the recent Lebanon war against Israel.

Both Trump and Vance’s remarks underscore a policy of non-intervention, highlighting a commitment to avoiding further entanglement in Middle Eastern conflicts. With Syria’s future uncertain, the United States is taking a hands-off approach, signaling a sharp departure from previous administrations’ involvement in the region.
