Iranian state media reportedly aired a mock arrest of President Donald Trump during the celebration of the establishment of the Islamic Republic.
Iranian media described the celebration of the 46th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution as a “display of national unity and unwavering revolutionary spirit.” The festivities surrounding the event were “imbued with fervor and patriotic zeal, showcasing the deep-rooted allegiance of the Iranian people to the values and principles that shaped the Islamic Republic following the Revolution’s victory,” PressTV reported.
Iranians partaking in the event marched, carried banners, and chanted slogans “echoing the indelible legacy of the Revolution that overthrew the United States-backed tyrannical Pahlavi monarchy,” the report said. These chants included “Death to America” and “Death to Israel.”
President Masoud Pezeshkian condemned Trump in a speech. “Trump says he wants dialogue, but in the same breath signs and announces every possible plot to bring the revolution to its knees,” he said.
“Israel, with American backing, is the real source of insecurity, bombing innocent people in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, and wherever it wants,” Pezeshkian claimed. “The U.S. claims to seek peace, but who has truly disrupted the region? Who is responsible for massacre and destruction in the region?”
Trump recently signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM) to restore maximum pressure on Iran.
The memo establishes that “Iran should be denied a nuclear weapon and intercontinental ballistic missiles,” its “terrorist network should be neutralized,” and its “aggressive development of missiles, as well as other asymmetric and conventional weapons capabilities, should be countered.”
“For far too long — all the way back to 1979, to be exact — nations have tolerated Iran’s destructive and destabilizing behavior in the Middle East and beyond,” Trump said in 2020. “Those days are over. Iran has been the leading sponsor of terrorism, and their pursuit of nuclear weapons threatens the civilized world. We will never let that happen.”
