Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian wrote an open letter addressed to Americans, claiming that Iran is not a threat to the American people.
“Despite its historical and geographical advantages at various times, Iran has never, in its modern history, chosen the path of aggression, expansion, colonialism, or domination,” the letter claims. It adds that “Iran has never initiated a war.”
Pezeshkian added that “portraying Iran as a threat is neither consistent with historical reality nor with present-day observable facts.” He wrote that such a perception is the “product of political and economic whims of the powerful– the need to manufacture an enemy in order to justify pressure, maintain military dominance, sustain the arms industry, and control strategic markets.”
“Exactly which of the American people’s interests are truly being served by this war?” the letter asks. “Was there any objective threat from Iran to justify such behavior?” Pezeshkian went on to claim that the Trump adminstration has engaged in war crimes.
“Is it not also the case that America has entered this aggression as a proxy for Israel, influenced and manipulated by that regime?” he claimed. “Is it not true that Israel, by manufacturing an Iranian threat, seeks to divert global attention away from its crimes toward the Palestinians?” Pezeshkian further asked if “America First” is “truly among the priorities of the U.S. government today.”
“Today, the world stands at a crossroads. Continuing along the path of confrontation is more costly and futile than ever before,” he added. “The choice between confrontation and engagement is both real and consequential; its outcome will shape the future for generations to come.”
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Iranian mission is designed to ensure that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon. “If what they truly wanted, which is what they claim, is nuclear energy, well, they could have nuclear energy like all the other countries in the world have it, and that is you import the fuel and you build reactors above ground. That’s not what Iran has done.” He said the facilities are deep in the mountains.
Rubio declared that the operation was “our last best chance to eliminate that conventional threat, that conventional shield that they were trying to build, and the President made the right decision to wipe it out now, that is the goal of this operation.”
