Illinois Wesleyan Pushes Gender Agenda with ‘Rainbow Floor’ and Universal Bathrooms

Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) in Bloomington, Illinois, has implemented initiatives promoting gender diversity, including the establishment of a “Rainbow Floor” in Pfeiffer Hall and the introduction of a “Universal Bathroom Map.”

The “Rainbow Floor” is a gender-inclusive living-learning community designed to provide a supportive environment for LGBTQIA students. It accommodates 14 students in a traditional dorm setting that is inclusive of all genders, sexual orientations, and gender expressions.

In addition to the Rainbow Floor, IWU has introduced a “Universal Bathroom Map” to guide students to gender-inclusive restrooms across campus. The university encourages students to use facilities that align with their gender identity or whichever option they feel is safer.

IWU’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion offers various resources for LGBTQIA students, including educational materials on gender terminology and guidance on navigating campus life. The university also provides referrals to local providers for students seeking gender-affirming care, although its student insurance plan does not cover hormone replacement therapy or related surgeries.

These initiatives signal a broader cultural shift in higher education where traditional views on gender and privacy are being replaced with policies driven by progressive ideology. Critics argue this redefinition of basic social norms could create confusion, infringe on privacy rights, and marginalize students who hold traditional beliefs.
