Illinois Bans Semiautomatic Guns Carrying Over 10 Rounds

After approval from both the House and Senate, the state of Illinois passed a gun law banning long guns carrying 10 rounds, and handguns carrying 15 rounds. State Senate President Don Harmon, state House Speaker Emanuel Welch, and Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker said the firearm ban is one of the “strongest” in the United States and is a “model for the nation.” Republican Senator Chapin Rose described the law as making “felons out of taxpayers.”

From The Blaze:

Pritzker, who alleged Illinois had previously "been held hostage by the NRA and their allies time and time again," claimed that the "law that is now in place will save lives, and it won't just save one life. It will be hundreds or potentially thousands of lives."

Democrat Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who has overseen significant bloodletting in her city — frequently committed with illegal firearms — despite similar bans on "assault weapons" called the law "significant and important progress."
