The unprecedented amount of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. under President Joe Biden’s leadership has led to the highest number of foreign-born babies.
QUICK FACTS:
- A new census data analysis discovered that the number of illegal and legal foreign-born immigrants in the United States is up to 46.6 million, up 1.6 million from last year, the Washington Examiner reported.
- The analysis, conducted by the Center for Immigration Studies, said that foreigners born in the country now take up 14.2% of the population, the highest record in 112 years.
- “If present trends continue, the immigrant share is likely to surpass the all-time highs reached in 1980 (14.8%) and 1910 (14.7%) in the next few years,” the report’s author said.
CENTER FOR IMMIGRATION STUDIES ON THE BORDER CRISIS:
“The large surge of illegal immigrants at the southern border caused in part by the perception, based on his campaign promises, that President Biden would curtail immigration enforcement explains at least some of the growth in the immigrant population we are seeing.”
BACKGROUND:
- Over the past year, Biden has undone much of former President Trump’s efforts to slow the number of immigrants crossing the border, including halting construction on the border wall and eliminating deportations.
- This change was noted as one of the main reasons for the influx of foreign-born babies, the report explained.
- Many states, including Texas and Arizona, have challenged Biden’s handling of the border and have taken requests to the Supreme Court over the immigration policies.
