Illegal Immigrants Leave New York City, Chicago: ‘There’s Nothing Here for Us’

A group of migrants have refused to stay at a New York City shelter, demanding better accommodations.

The shelter was a converted airfield.

One migrant told The New York Post, “We weren’t told where we were going. I work in the Bronx. My kids go to school in the Bronx. For us to live out here is ridiculous.”

“We’re going back,” he said.

Another migrant bused to the converted airfield previously lived at the Roosevelt Hotel. He told the outlet that he “cannot stay here. This is crazy.”

A spokesman for New York City Mayor Eric Adams explained, “As we have said time and time again, more than 139,500 asylum seekers have moved through our intake system since the spring of 2022, all of whom have been offered vital services. But with more than 65,600 migrants still currently in our care, and thousands more continuing to arrive every week, we have used every possible corner of New York City and are quite simply out of good options to shelter migrants.”

Similarly, migrants residing in Chicago have opted to move back to their home countries as the city cannot sustain its resources used to support illegal immigrants.

“The American Dream doesn’t exist anymore,” one man said. “There’s nothing here for us.”

He added that he “didn’t know things would be this hard,” referring to the asylum process. “I thought the process was faster.”

“We just want to be home,” the man continued. “If we’re going to be sleeping in the streets here, we’d rather be sleeping in the streets over there.”
