Illegal Immigrant Kills Detroit Pastor

Illegal Immigrant Freed After Allegedly Killing Beloved Detroit Pastor

Stephen Singleton, a respected 72-year-old pastor from Detroit, died on November 3 after being struck by a car while walking in a crosswalk. Despite wearing a reflective vest and following all safety precautions, the driver—an illegal immigrant from Colombia—was released from custody, according to local reports.

Pastor Singleton, known for his dedication to his community and acts of service, leaves behind a grieving family and congregation. His wife, Teri, expressed heartbreak over her husband’s death and frustration with the driver’s release. “He’s dead, and they’re walking around. That’s bothering me,” she said.

The pastor’s daughter, Ruth, emphasized forgiveness despite the tragedy, reflecting her father’s Christian teachings. “I refuse to be angry. I will still love like my Dad taught me to,” she told local media.

Singleton was a pillar of his community. After 9/11, he volunteered at Ground Zero, aiding first responders and victims. He was also a religion instructor at Saint Cecilia Elementary School, mentoring countless children over the years. His granddaughter described him as a loving figure who treated everyone as family.

To help with funeral and medical expenses, the family has set up a GoFundMe account. In the message, his granddaughter praised his generosity and commitment to spreading God’s love, writing, “He was a father to the fatherless and a friend to everyone.”

The case highlights ongoing concerns about public safety and immigration enforcement, especially when individuals in the country illegally are involved in fatal incidents.
