ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) in Boston arrested a Haitian national, Jefferson Jerome, who had previously been allowed into the U.S. under the Biden-Harris administration.
Jerome, who had unlawfully crossed the border in 2021 and was subsequently returned to Mexico, attempted to enter the U.S. again in 2022, at which point he was released with a notice to appear in court.
In September 2023, Jerome was arrested after being charged with indecent assault and battery in Massachusetts. Despite these serious charges, he was released under pretrial conditions with a GPS monitoring device.
ERO Boston officers swiftly arrested him after his release from state custody, and he is now in federal custody.
This case highlights concerns about the Biden administration’s border policies, which have led to individuals with serious criminal charges, like Jerome, being released into American communities.
ERO Boston, under Director Todd M. Lyons, remains committed to prioritizing public safety and removing dangerous noncitizens from New England.
Jerome’s arrest also underscores a growing issue, with ICE recently reporting record numbers of noncitizen sex offender arrests, including 153 individuals in Maryland alone during the 2024 fiscal year.
