A newly unsealed federal indictment charges 36-year-old Jose Guadalupe Vazquez-Delgado, a Mexican national, with possession of ammunition by an illegal alien and unlawful reentry into the United States. The charges stem from a shooting that took place in Antioch, Tennessee.
According to court documents, Vazquez had been drinking heavily inside a home when an argument broke out with another man. The dispute escalated outside, with the victim’s 7-year-old daughter following them.
Moments later, Vazquez allegedly shot the man multiple times before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and survived.
Authorities recovered ammunition, Vazquez’s truck, his Mexican passport, and other personal items at the scene. Records show that Vazquez had been deported to Mexico at least twice before.
If convicted, he faces a maximum of 15 years in federal prison for the firearms charge and up to two years for unlawful reentry.
Last month, a Mexican national who had previously been deported was arrested and charged with murder in a multiple shooting incident in Michigan, according to police reports.
Authorities in Alpine Township, a northern suburb of Grand Rapids, charged Gilberto Hernandez-Mendez, 42, with eleven counts, including murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses, following a February 22 shooting that left one woman dead and two others wounded.
Investigators say Hernandez-Mendez opened fire at an Alpine Township residence around 2:30 a.m. after a domestic dispute. Norma Ramirez-Martinez, 56, was killed in the attack. The suspect’s ex-girlfriend and another woman were also shot, while the ex-girlfriend’s two daughters suffered injuries.
