Ilhan Omar’s Daughter Stands with Cuban Communism

Cuban dissidents responded with outrage this weekend as a convoy of American and international leftists arrived in Havana to show solidarity with the 67-year-old communist regime, staying at five-star tourist hotels while the island endured a nationwide electricity blackout.

The “Nuestra America” convoy includes Isra Hirsi, daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), leftist internet streamer Hasan Piker, former British Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, and Pablo Iglesias, the former head of Spain’s Marxist Podemos party. Several American activist groups joined as well, including Codepink and the People’s Forum, both of which have received millions of dollars tied to tech billionaire Neville Roy Singham, who Fox News Digital recently connected to a documented $278 million network of pro-China propaganda groups.

The “Nuestra America” group describes its mission as delivering “critical humanitarian aid” to Cuba in response to the Trump administration’s pressure on communist regimes. Its website does not reference the Castro government’s role in the island’s economic collapse or its decades of documented political repression.

Miguel Díaz-Canel, Cuba’s leader, welcomed the group. “We welcome the arrival in #Cuba of new solidarity groups from the ‘Nuestra América’ Convoy,” he wrote on X. “The courage of these friends of all ages moves us, as they are willing to share our same fate at a difficult and challenging time for the country. We also admire their generous selflessness, in taking on the costs of passage and stay, in addition to the valuable donations they bring as luggage.”

“A beautiful lesson in dignity and humanism that heroic Cuba thanks and will never forget,” he added. “Welcome the tenderness of the peoples.”

Omar said she is “incredibly proud of Isra and everyone who made the trip to Cuba. They took tons of aid to make sure the people of Cuba knew that there are so many people across the world who stand in solidarity with them. Cuba has always sent aid to countries in need and has trained thousands of physicians across the world, including my childhood physician.”

She noted that Hirsi is “more than just my daughter, she is a brilliant young leader who has always worked hard to advocate for a more just world. She inspires me and so many people with her leadership and dedication. I am forever fortunate to have her as my daughter but I am even more fortunate to know her as the unflinching justice warrior for justice she is.”
