Ilhan Omar’s daughter Isra Hirsi is now jobless and selling secondhand clothes online, just months after graduating from the elite Barnard College. Hirsi revealed her situation Tuesday via Instagram, stating plainly, “Unemployment got me,” and linking to her page on Depop, where she is hawking items like $50 Dr. Martens boots and a $15 cardigan.
Hirsi made headlines in April 2024 after being arrested during a pro-Hamas encampment at Columbia University. Barnard College briefly suspended her, though the school reversed course following pressure from leftist faculty. She graduated in May, proudly waving a Palestinian flag across the commencement stage.
Now, Ilhan Omar’s daughter may be facing real-world consequences for her radical campus activism. While Hirsi has not confirmed the reason for her joblessness, major employers like ExxonMobil and the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell publicly stated they would not hire graduates involved in antisemitic protests.
“Harassment and intimidation, I think there’s no place for that at those universities and certainly no place for that at a company like ExxonMobil,” CEO Darren Woods told CNBC.
While Hirsi sells her wardrobe online, one item remains off the market—her oversized $250 Versace glasses, frequently seen in her social media photos.
From elite academia to selling used cardigans, Hirsi’s post-graduation reality serves as a warning: radical activism may earn applause on campus, but in the real world, it costs opportunity.
