Idaho student murders suspect Bryan Kohberger shocked everyone Monday when he accepted a plea deal that spares his life in the killings of four University of Idaho students. Sources told Fox News Digital he won’t have to explain his motive as part of the agreement.
“Those families have been victimized by the very prosecutors who should have had their backs,” said former homicide detective Ted Williams. One of the victim’s families blasted the move, stating through attorney Shanon Gray: “The death penalty is merely an illusion in the criminal justice system… The notion that someone can plead guilty… still face years of appellate delays reveals a systemic failure.”
They reportedly received notification only through email. “We weren’t even called about the plea; we received an email with a letter attached,” the statement added.
Boise defense attorney Edwina Elcox noted, “By taking a plea deal, Bryan Kohberger has insulated himself from a sentence that would require his execution. … He will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.”“
Retired NYPD inspector Paul Mauro blasted the deal, warning, “If they don’t get the why, this is the most incomprehensible deal of all time.”
As Williams concluded, “He owes those families, and the public.” The plea deal leaves a community demanding transparency and justice.
