Hunter Biden’s former landlord, Shaun Maguire, a partner at Sequoia Capital, claims the president’s son attempted to settle over $300,000 in unpaid rent by offering artwork described as “poop art.” Maguire made the allegations public on December 1, sharing a photo of the artwork on X, formerly Twitter.
Maguire alleged that Hunter, who rented a property in Venice, California, from 2019 to 2020, failed to pay rent for over a year and proposed using his artwork to cover the debt. “Hunter was our tenant in Venice, CA. Didn’t pay rent for over a year. Tried to pay w/ art made from his own feces. Absolute sh*t bag,” Maguire wrote.
The revelation comes in the wake of President Joe Biden’s controversial pardon of Hunter, which absolved him of all alleged wrongdoing from 2014 to 2024, including any charges that were never formally filed.
Maguire questioned whether the pardon absolves Hunter of the unpaid rent. “Is that pardoned now? Thanks Joe. (This is a true story),” Maguire posted. “So what happens to the $300k+ in back pay rent that Hunter Biden owes my family from 2019-2020?”
Experts in the art market suggest that President Biden’s decision not to seek reelection has significantly reduced the value of Hunter’s artwork. Known for his controversial art career, Hunter’s pieces have been subject to scrutiny regarding their authenticity and market value.
The allegations add another layer to Hunter Biden’s already tumultuous public narrative, as questions linger over the implications of his father’s pardon and his ability to settle debts.
