Hundreds of Flights Delayed at Philadelphia International Airport

Hundreds of flights have been delayed or canceled at Philadelphia International Airport as strong winds and heavy rain impact the region. As of 2:45 p.m. Sunday, 207 flights were delayed, with 37 cancellations reported.

The severe weather comes as a High Wind Warning remains in effect across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware until 6 p.m. Monday. Forecasters predict wind gusts could reach 60 mph, comparable to tropical storm-force winds.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential downed trees, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Officials urge travelers to check with their airlines for updates and exercise caution on the roads as the storm moves through the area.

City officials are urging everyone to stay proactive and cautious as the storm brings life-threatening weather conditions.

Earlier last month, Philadelphia was under a snow emergency as a huge winter storm hit. City officials urged residents to take precautions as heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures gripped the area.

With Philadelphia under a ‘Code Blue’ alert, city leaders are focusing on protecting vulnerable residents. Warming centers at libraries and senior centers are open, some operating 24 hours, to provide shelter for those without a safe place to stay

Mayor Cherelle Parker emphasized the city’s commitment to ensuring safety during the harsh cold winter conditions:

“There is no excuse. If you see someone who is unsheltered during this Code Blue and these extremely low temperatures, call 215-232-1984. There is more than enough support available to ensure that all Philadelphians are protected during this time.”
