Trump Teases TikTok Purchase

President Donald Trump announced that he has a group of “very wealthy people” prepared to purchase social media app TikTok.

“We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way,” Trump said in an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo. “I think I’ll need probably China approval, and I think President Xi will probably do it.”

“I’ll tell you in about two weeks,” he added, emphasizing that the buyers are “very, very wealthy people.”

The development comes as Trump extended the deadline for parent company Bytedance to divest TikTok for another 90 days.

“I’ve just signed the Executive Order extending the Deadline for the TikTok closing for 90 days (September 17, 2025),” Trump wrote on Truth Social earlier this month.

According to the executive order, the Department of Justice “shall take no action to enforce the Protecting Americans From Adversary Controlled Applications Act…or impose any penalties against any entity for any noncompliance with the Act, including for distributing, maintaining, or updating of any foreign adversary controlled application as defined in the Act.”

TikTok said in a statement that it is “grateful for President Trump’s leadership and support in ensuring that TikTok continues to be available for more than 170 million American users and 7.5 million U.S. businesses that rely on the platform as we continue to work with Vice President Vance’s Office.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained at the time that the Trump administration “does not want TikTok to go dark,” noting that the administration will work to “ensure this deal is closed so that the American people can continue to use TikTok with the assurance that their data is safe and secure.”
