President Donald Trump placed two new flagpoles on the White House lawn.
“It is a GIFT from me of something which was always missing from this magnificent place,” he declared on Truth Social the evening prior to the installation, adding, “These are the most magnificent poles made – They are tall, tapered, rust proof, rope inside the pole, and of the highest quality. Hopefully, they will proudly stand at both sides of the White House for many years to come!”
“The White House opened about 1800,” he told reporters, “and I’ve always said, ‘Why doesn’t it have a flagpole from the grass?’ The have a little one on top, a very little one. This is about the largest you’ll ever see, and it’s tapered…We’re about to lift it, and we also have one going on the front, or the north.”
“We’ll have one on this side of the building and we’ll have one on that side of the building, properly placed,” Trump said.
Trump announced plans to install the flagpoles in April. He said at the time, “We’re putting up a beautiful, almost 100-foot-tall American flag on this side and another one on the other side, two flags, top of the line.”
“They needed flagpoles for 200 years. It was something I’ve often said, you know, they don’t have a flagpole per se,” he said. “So we’re putting one right where you saw us, and we’re putting another one on the other side, on top of the mounds. It’s going to be two beautiful poles.”
“Paid for by Trump,” he added.
