House Votes to Open Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden

House Republicans formally authorized their impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

The House voted along party lines by a vote of 221-212 to go ahead with the inquiry.

“The impeachment power resides solely with the House of Representatives. If a majority of the House now says we’re in an official impeachment inquiry as part of our constitutional duty to do oversight, that carries weight. That’s going to help us get these witnesses in,” Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), told reporters.

Oklahoma Republican Tom Cole said his colleagues had been left with no choice but to bring the vote.

Cole said it was a “sad day for myself, the institution and the American people” and accused the White House of “stonewalling” the impeachment inquiry.
