House Republicans Propose to Using Funds Previously Allocated to IRS for Israel

Republicans have proposed legislation to fund Israel amid its war with Hamas.

The legislation, The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024, will fund $14.3 billion previously allocated to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the Inflation Reduction Act.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) criticized the bill, saying, “House Republicans are setting a dangerous precedent by suggesting that protecting national security or responding to natural disasters is contingent upon cuts to other programs.”

Only one Democrat has voiced support for the bill, Jared Moskowitz, a representative from Florida.

According to Reuters, House Speaker Mike Johnson wanted aid to Israel and Ukraine to be handled separately.

“Israel is a separate matter,” Johnson said in an interview with Fox News.
