House Panel to Subpoena Epstein Associate

The House Oversight Committee voted to subpoena Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. The motion, brought by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), passed the Government Operations Subcommittee unanimously.

“Today, I am proud to announce that the Oversight Committee approved my motion directing Chairman Comer to subpoena Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell to appear before the House Oversight Committee,” Burchett said in a statement. “This deposition will help the American people understand how Jeffrey Epstein was able to carry out his evil actions for so long without being brought to justice.”

Burchett shared his motion on social media, which read, “Mr. Chairman, I move to direct the chairman of the full committee to authorize and issue a subpoena for Ghislaine Maxwell to appear for a deposition.”

Last week, the congressman sent a letter to Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY), requesting that he invite Maxwell to “testify in a public hearing before the Committee.”

“Should Ms. Maxwell refuse the invitation, I encourage you to use subpoena powers,” the letter said. “The American people have questions about the case involving Jeffrey Epstein. It is well beyond time those questions are answered.”

A spokesperson told reporters following the vote that the Committee will “seek to subpoena Ms. Maxwell as expeditiously as possible. Since Ms. Maxwell is in federal prison, the Committee will work with the Department of Justice and Bureau of Prisons to identify a date when [the] Committee can depose her.”

The vote follows Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche declaring that the Justice Department intends to meet with Maxwell “in the coming days.”
