House Oversight Committee Issues Subpoenas for Biden Family Financial Records from Major Banks

The House Oversight Committee, led by Republican Chairman James Comer of Kentucky, has issued subpoenas to several major banks requesting financial records belonging to the Biden family, Fox News reports.

Bank of America, Cathay Bank, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC USA N.A., as well as former Hunter Biden business associate Mervyn Yan, have all been subpoenaed for their records.

While the subpoena request was confirmed by Fox News, the purpose of the investigation and the specific information being sought remain unclear.

However, Rep. Comer has made clear his intentions to uncover any wrongdoing by the Biden family, stating that “the facts are not good for the Biden family.”

In response, Ranking Member Jamie Raskin, a Democrat from Maryland, accused Comer of withholding information from Democrats on the committee.

“Ranking Member Raskin has again disclosed Committee’s subpoenas in a cheap attempt to thwart cooperation from other witnesses,” Comer said.

Raskin defended his actions, saying that “Democrats on the Committee have an equal right to know what is being subpoenaed and why, and to participate in the formulation of the subpoenas.”

He went on to accuse Comer of playing political games and suggested that the investigation may be politically motivated.

The Oversight Committee has the authority to subpoena individuals and organizations for information as part of its oversight duties, but compliance is not always guaranteed, Fox News notes.
