The office of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries condemned alleged Thanksgiving Day threats made against Democratic members of Congress, claiming the threats ranged from “detailed threats of a pipe bomb placed in mailboxes to swatting incidents.”
In a statement issued Friday, Jeffries’ office stated that each of the threats was reportedly “signed with ‘MAGA’ at the conclusion of the message.”
The minority leader used the incident to draw attention to what he described as a troubling escalation in political rhetoric.
According to the statement, nearly all Democratic House and Senate members from Connecticut were targeted by the threats, including Senator Chris Murphy and Representatives Jim Himes, Joe Courtney, John Larson, Jahana Hayes, and Rosa DeLauro.
Authorities conducted thorough investigations of the lawmakers’ homes and found no evidence of explosive devices, the minority leader’s office confirmed.
While the safety of public officials must be a priority, it is essential to approach such claims responsibly, ensuring that any investigations remain free from politicization. Allegations like these should not be used to further divide Americans but instead serve as a reminder of the importance of civil discourse and the rule of law.
