Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced that she plans to put forward a bill banning weather modification, an effort similar to a bill recently signed by Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL).
“I am introducing a bill that prohibits the injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity. It will be a felony offense,” she wrote on X. “I have been researching weather modification and working with the legislative counsel for months writing this bill.”
Explaining that the bill will be similar to Florida’s law, Greene declared, “We must end the dangerous and deadly practice of weather modification and geoengineering.”
She asserted that the practice is “not normal,” emphasizing that she believes the nation must have “clean air, clean skies, clean rain water, clean ground water, and sun shine just like God created it!!”
“No person, company, entity, or government should ever be allowed to modify our weather by any means possible!!” she continued. “Honored to add [Rep. Tim Burchett] as a cosponsor and look forward to working with more members of Congress, hopefully on both sides of the aisle.”
Under the model Florida law, the “injection, release, or dispersion of chemicals or substances into the atmosphere for the express purpose of altering weather, temperature, climate, or sunlight intensity” is prohibited, a news release explains. Those who violate the policy face up to five years in prison and fines up to $100,000.
“The Free State of Florida means freedom from governments or private actors unilaterally applying chemicals or geoengineering to people or public spaces,” DeSantis said of the bill.
