Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) is demanding more answers from the FBI surrounding a Biden-era investigation.
The investigation, called Arctic Frost, used specific code names that Grassley called “anything but random.”
Writing to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, Grassley noted that the agencies have already “produced a document that shows that edits were made to an early version of a draft Arctic Frost opening document.” He noted that the document contains “several handwritten edits,” including the initial name of the investigation, “Hyperbolic Frost.”
“This newly released DOJ document calls into question the accuracy of the testimony former FBI Director James Comey provided to me during a May 3, 2017, Senate Judiciary Committee FBI oversight hearing,” Grassley wrote, going on to emphasize that renaming the investigation was “anything but random.”
In October, Grassley made public nearly 200 subpoenas issued by former Special Counsel Jack Smith and his team as part of their case against President Trump.
The 197 subpoenas, obtained by Grassley through whistleblower disclosures, were sent to 34 individuals and 163 businesses. The records also named at least 430 Republican individuals and entities.
“Arctic Frost was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and DOJ prosecutors could improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus,” Grassley said during a press conference. “Contrary to what Smith has said publicly, this was clearly a fishing expedition.”
“If this happened to the Democrats, they’d be as rightly outraged as we are,” Grassley expressed. “We’re making these records public in the interest of transparency and so that the American people can draw their own conclusions.”
