Gov. Glenn Youngkin Encourages Trump Staffers to Make Virginia ‘Home’

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is making a direct appeal to incoming members of President-elect Donald Trump’s administration, encouraging them to settle in the Old Dominion as they transition into their new roles.

In a video posted to X, Youngkin said, “To the new members of President Trump’s administration moving to the area, I want to personally invite you to make Virginia your home. Virginia is right across the Potomac.”

According to Axios, Republican insiders are already gravitating toward areas like Old Town Alexandria, McLean, and Great Falls—wealthy and strategically located neighborhoods in Northern Virginia. While Trump garnered less support in some parts of the region, including Arlington (20%), Alexandria (24%), and Fairfax County (31%), these figures still surpass his vote share in Washington, D.C. (7%).

Youngkin’s outreach comes after a contentious election season in Alexandria, where political tensions ran high. One notable flashpoint involved the closure of Del Ray’s Judy Lowe Neighborhood Park at the request of the Secret Service, as it was adjacent to Vice President-elect J.D. Vance’s home.

The closure sparked backlash, with some residents posting signs with messages like “Not Going Back” and “Childless Cat Ladies Vote” near the barriers, according to ALXnow.

Youngkin’s invitation reflects his ongoing efforts to position Virginia as a welcoming and strategic location for conservative leaders while capitalizing on the proximity to the nation’s capital.
