GOP Calls Out Chicago Mayor’s ‘Call to Arms’ Against Abortion Ban: ‘If This Isn’t a Call to Insurrection, What Is?’

The leftist mayor implied the court would come for LGBTQ rights next.

QUICK FACTS:
  • Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has issued a “call to arms” in response to the leaked opinion that indicated the Supreme Court might overturn Roe v. Wade.
  • “This tweet is worse than anything Democrats screech about Trump saying on January 6. Lightfoot is attempting to incite violence,” said right-wing Political commentator Tim Young.
  • Lightfoot later qualified her comments, saying that everyone who read the opinion was feeling a wide range of different emotions.
POLITICIANS & INFLUENTIAL FIGURES’ RESPONSE TO LIGHTFOOT’S CALL:
  • “If this isn’t a call to insurrection, what is?” Asked Texas Scoreboard publisher Michael Quinn Sullivan, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) responded simply with “Call to arms. #DemMobViolence.”
  • “Call to arms? Are you declaring an insurrection? Civil war? What is wrong with you?” asked Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. “Your city has the highest murder rate in the US with the strictest gun control laws. Now you are making things up and calling for war? Not a good idea.”
BACKGROUND:
  • During an interview with MSNBC, Lightfoot walked back her comments, saying, “I think everybody who saw that draft opinion has gone through a range of different emotions.”
  • “And that’s why I’m calling upon fellow elected officials across the country, and particularly my fellow mayors to join me in making a pledge that we made today, which is a justice for all pledge. And fundamentally, it reaffirms Chicago as a welcoming city, a city that doesn’t discriminate, and a city that’s going to stand with women,” she added.
