Rep. Andy Olges (R-TN) introduced a bill that would permit President-elect Donald Trump to enter negotiations with Denmark about the potential for the U.S. to acquire Greenland.
The bill, called the “Make Greenland Great Again Act,” would “authorize the President to seek to enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States.”
Ogles told Fox News, “Joe Biden took a blowtorch to our reputation these past four years, and before even taking office, President Trump is telling the world that America First is back. American economic and security interests will no longer take a backseat, and House Republicans are ready to help President Trump deliver for the American people.”
Ten House Republicans support the bill, including Reps. Mike Lawler, (R-NY), Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), Michael Rulli (R-OH), Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Claudia Tenney (R-NY), Neal Dunn (R-FL), Barry Moore (R-AL), Randy Weber (R-TX), and Brian Babin (R-TX).
Republicans have also proposed bills that would make Trump’s suggestion of renaming the Gulf of Mexico a reality for U.S. documents and permit negotiations to take back the Panama Canal.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said she directed her staff to draft a bill recognizing the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”
According to the bill, “any reference in a law, map, regulation, document, paper, or other record of the United States to the Gulf of Mexico shall be deemed to be a reference to the ‘Gulf of America.’”
South Dakota Rep. Dusty Johnson (R) introduced a bill that would “authorize the President to enter into negotiations for the reacquisition of the Panama Canal from the Republic of Panama for the symbolic amount of $1.”
“President Trump is right to consider repurchasing the Panama Canal,” Johnson said in a statement. “China’s interest in and presence around the canal is a cause for concern. America must project strength abroad – owning and operating the Panama Canal might be an important step towards a stronger America and a more secure globe.”
