Germany to End Ukraine Military Aid Amid Budget Cuts

Germany may cut additional military aid to Ukraine due to budget constraints, according to reports.

This development comes as Germany grapples with financial pressures that could impact its ability to provide further assistance.

The country will however continue to send most of the money and physical aid already allocated to Ukraine.

The decision could mark a significant shift in Europe’s approach to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing conflict with Russia.

In November 2023, German chancellor Olaf Scholz’s governing coalition agreed to double the country’s military aid for Ukraine in 2024 to 8 billion euros.

The boost increased Germany’s defense spending beyond the 2% of gross domestic product target pledged by all North Atlantic Treaty Organization members.

According to Bloomberg News, lawmakers of Scholz’s Social Democrats, the Free Democrats and the Green party agreed on the increase in negotiations over the proposed 2024 federal budget at the time.
