Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger officially certified the 2024 presidential election results Friday morning, confirming a decisive victory for President-elect Donald J. Trump over Democrat Kamala Harris. Trump carried Georgia with 50.73% of the vote compared to Harris’ 48.53%, contributing 16 electoral votes to his sweep of seven key battleground states.
Raffensperger praised the accuracy and security of the election process, noting it was the “most secure election in Georgia’s history.” His office implemented a statewide “risk-limiting audit” to ensure the accuracy of the vote count. Hand-count audits in all 159 Georgia counties revealed only minor discrepancies due to human error, affirming the reliability of electronic tallies.
Of Georgia’s nearly 7.3 million registered voters, 5.3 million participated in the election, marking a record 72.7% turnout. Early voting and Election Day turnout surged, reflecting strong voter engagement in the state.
The election results mark a stark contrast from 2020, when it took over two weeks to declare Joe Biden the winner in Georgia. This year, results were finalized promptly, and Raffensperger highlighted the efficient counting process as a testament to Georgia’s improved election systems.
Governor Brian Kemp will now certify Georgia’s slate of electors for the Electoral College, solidifying Trump’s victory in the state. Raffensperger, who has faced criticism from both parties during his tenure, emphasized his commitment to election integrity and transparency, saying, “The votes were counted accurately, securely, and quickly.”
Trump’s victory in Georgia underscores his broader success across the nation’s battleground states, securing a clear path to the presidency.
