Gavin Newsom Fines School District for Denying LGBT Curriculum

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) is fining Temecula School District $1.5 million after the district rejected LGBT curriculum.

The proposed curriculum from the governor’s office included a book referencing Harvey Milk.

Milk is a controversial figure who allegedly had a relationship with a teenager while he was in his 30s.

Newsom said in a press release after the district rejected the curriculum, “Cancel culture has gone too far in Temecula: radicalized zealots on the school board rejected a textbook used by hundreds of thousands of students and now children will begin the school year without the tools they need to learn.”

“If the school board won’t do its job by its next board meeting to ensure kids start the school year with basic materials, the state will deliver the book into the hands of children and their parents — and we’ll send the district the bill and fine them for violating state law,” the governor continued.

The governor then announced a contract to ensure students within the Temecula School District receive the textbooks.

“The three political activists on the school board have yet again proven they are more interested in breaking the law than doing their jobs of educating students — so the state will do their job for them,” Newsom said in another press release.

He stated, “California will ensure students in Temecula begin the school year with access to materials reviewed by parents and recommended by teachers across the district. After we deliver the textbooks into the hands of students and their parents, the state will deliver the bill — along with a $1.5 million fine — to the school board for its decision to willfully violate the law, subvert the will of parents, and force children to use an out-of-print textbook from 17 years ago.”

Reporting from The Daily Caller:

One Temecula Valley, a Political Action Committee, is collecting signatures to recall several members of the school board. The school board members — Joseph Komrosky, Danny Gonzales and Jen Wiersma — have reportedly banned critical race theory in the district.
