California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) was a “small, pathetic man” and accused him of potentially “kidnapping” migrants after 16 individuals arrived in Sacramento, California without authorities’ advanced knowledge or preparation for their arrival.
The migrants arrived in El Paso from South America, were transported via bus to New Mexico, and were then flown to Sacramento to be dropped off at the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sacramento.
The migrants reportedly had documentation suggesting their flight was arranged by the Florida Division of Emergency Management.

In a statement on Saturday, California Atty. Gen. Rob Bonta said that his office is “investigating the circumstances by which these individuals were brought to California.” He added, “We are also evaluating potential criminal or civil action against those who transported or arranged for the transport of these vulnerable immigrants. While this is still under investigation, we can confirm these individuals were in possession of documentation purporting to be from the government of the state of Florida.”
