Full Arrest of Journalist Reporting on Ohio Explosion Seen on Bodycam Footage

Bodycam footage revealed the full arrest of journalist Evan Lambert, who reported on an Ohio train derailment that resulted in an explosion releasing toxic chemicals. The video shows Ohio National Guard Maj. Gen. John Harris Jr. speaking with a camera operator before a state trooper motioned for the recording to stop. Harris approached Lambert and pushed him away. He then stated in a police statement that Lambert appeared hostile and made Harris feel threatened. Lambert claimed he was merely doing his job as a reporter, but was arrested on the charges of trespassing and resisting arrest.

From Reclaim the Net:

Lambert spent five hours in jail. He said no journalist expects to be arrested when you’re doing your job, and I think that’s really important that that doesn’t happen in our country.”

Gov. DeWine said that he did not authorize the arrest nor did he see the disagreement. He added that reporters have “every right” to cover briefings.
