Fox News Ratings Plummet 47% Following Carlson’s Exit

The departure of Tucker Carlson from Fox News has led to a significant decline in the network’s prime-time ratings, with a 47% drop in viewership, according to data from Nielsen, the marketing and measurement firm, The Los Angeles Times reports.

Following Carlson’s exit earlier this week, Fox News Tonight temporarily took over the time slot previously held by Tucker Carlson Tonight.

On Monday, the same day Carlson left the network, the show attracted 1.7 million viewers with Brian Kilmeade from Fox & Friends as the host, as reported by the LA Times.

In comparison, Tucker Carlson Tonight averaged 3.2 million viewers during the first quarter of 2023.

The impact of Carlson’s departure extended beyond his own time slot, with other Fox News shows experiencing declines in ratings.

Hannity’s viewership decreased by 20%, averaging 2 million viewers, while The Ingraham Angle saw a 12% drop, attracting 1.56 million viewers, LA Times notes.

Meanwhile, Newsmax seems to have benefited from the absence of Carlson, as viewers searched for an alternative.

Eric Bolling The Balance, airing in the 8 p.m. Eastern hour, drew in 562,000 viewers, a fivefold increase from the previous Tuesday when Carlson had Elon Musk as his guest.

Bolling is a former Fox News host.

Other shows on Newsmax experienced a boost in their audience as well.

Rob Schmitt Tonight, Prime News, and Greg Kelly Reports all doubled their viewership compared to a week ago.

A Newsmax representative has also noted an increase in viewership on the network’s streaming platforms, highlighting that the channel is available as a free streaming app.

Carlson on Wednesday posted a two-minute and sixteen-second video message on Twitter that has gained more than 16 million views so far and rising as well as 52 million impressions.
