Four Los Angeles Deputies Injured in Alleged Inmate Assault at Men’s Jail

Four Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies are recovering from injuries following an alleged attack by inmates at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles.

The assault occurred around 12:15 p.m. at the jail located in the 400 block of Bauchet Street. Authorities report that the inmates attacked a deputy while moving through the facility.

The deputies were able to stop the assault, and the involved inmates were detained. One deputy sustained a puncture-type injury and, along with three others, was taken to the hospital for treatment. All deputies were treated and released.

A “jail-made weapon” was recovered at the scene. The inmates involved in the attack were also medically evaluated and remain in custody.

The motive for the assault is still under investigation, and the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau is handling the case.

Sheriff Mike Boudreaux of Tulare County, California, has launched an inmate work program designed to reduce recidivism and ease the financial burden on taxpayers.

The initiative places incarcerated individuals in agricultural jobs, including animal care and crop harvesting, on county-owned farms. The produce grown, such as cabbage and broccoli, is used to feed the jail population, significantly cutting food costs.

Beyond farming, inmates can receive certifications in butchery, equipping them with valuable skills for employment upon release.

Sheriff Boudreaux emphasizes that this program focuses on inmates eligible for rehabilitation, allowing them to develop responsibility and work ethic while serving their sentences.

The program has already resulted in over $1 million in savings annually for the county. Sheriff Boudreaux maintains that providing inmates with structured labor and vocational training helps break cycles of crime while benefiting local taxpayers.
