Keith Kellogg, retired lieutenant general and former U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine, told Fox News that the Trump administration should resume the elimination of Iranian leaders.
Speaking to Jesse Watters this week, Kellogg said of the conflict in Iran, “I think the president is going to close it out, he should close it out. But there’s a few things he should do.” He went on to say Trump should cease negotiations, and “keep taking out their leadership.”
Political assassinations will “destabilize the regime,” Kellogg asserted. He suggested that the United States weigh taking Kharg Island and Larak Island, describing them as the “command and control center” of the Gulf.
“When people talk about troops on the ground, that’s pretty important. I’ve never seen a war won strictly from the air,” he added.
Kellogg made similar comments during an appearance on Fox News’s “America Reports,” where he again criticized ongoing negotiations.
“Look, there’s about five things we ought to be doing right now, because the war has changed right now in Iran. One, on negotiations, I would change out our negotiations team,” he said. “You do not — have — or need real estate guys to be talking about negotiation during the middle of a war, and when you do bring a negotiations team back, it ought to be a real hardcore [expletive] that is just sitting on the ground and can really do it well.”
“You’re going to need ground troops to do something. That doesn’t mean they go all the way to Tehran,” Kellogg added. “Then I’m not advocating that at all. But you could take a couple key strategic targets, that gives the president leverage and controls their economy.”
