Foreign National Democrat Mega-Donor Uses Berger Action Fund to Influence American Politics

The Berger Action Fund donates large sums of money primarily to the campaigns of Democrats, most of which comes from the donations of Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss.

In 2021, Wyss donated $72 million to the Berger Action Fund, formerly known as the Wyss Action Fund, and became one of the largest Democrat megadonors.

While it is illegal for a foreign national to donate to U.S. political candidates, Wyss circumvented the law by donating to the Berger Action Fund rather than the campaign directly.

The Berger Action Fund does not reveal donors’ identities.

Reporting from Hot Air:

So what protections are in place to monitor the flow of cash in this fashion? There basically aren’t any. When it comes to these supposed nonprofit groups, we’re expected to simply “take them at their word.”

“The whole system is currently structured on this premise that we can take these nonprofit group at their word. The reality is there is really no effective oversight to make sure money from a foreign national doesn’t wind up in electoral politics,” said Saurav Ghosh, a director of the Campaign Legal Center, a Washington-based nonpartisan watchdog group.
