Firing DOJ Officials Behind Trump Indictments

Senator Schmitt Demands Firing of DOJ Officials Behind Trump Indictments

Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) has called for the dismissal of Department of Justice (DOJ) employees involved in what he describes as politically motivated indictments against President Donald Trump. Speaking on NBC’s Meet the Press, Schmitt argued that accountability is necessary to restore trust in the DOJ.

Accusations of Political Bias

Schmitt criticized the DOJ for allegedly using taxpayer-funded resources to prevent Trump from appearing on the 2024 ballot. He referred to the four indictments against Trump during the election season, including two federal cases overseen by special prosecutor Jack Smith under President Joe Biden’s administration. Schmitt stated:

“You can’t have the Justice Department abused in this way. The people involved in this effort should be fired immediately.”

Indictments Stalled After Trump’s Election Victory

Since Trump’s re-election, several high-profile cases against him have been suspended or dismissed:

  • The Manhattan Case: District Attorney Alvin Bragg, backed by George Soros, postponed sentencing in the “hush money” case indefinitely. This case charged Trump with falsifying financial documents.
  • Federal Prosecutions: Special prosecutor Jack Smith’s federal cases have also been paused amid concerns about prosecutorial overreach.

These developments have fueled Schmitt’s calls for reforms and accountability within the DOJ.

Support for Trump’s Nominee for Attorney General

Schmitt praised Pam Bondi, Trump’s pick for Attorney General, for her commitment to ending DOJ “weaponization.” Bondi, a former Florida attorney general and member of Trump’s impeachment defense team, has vowed to prosecute any abuses of power by officials who pursued anti-Trump cases. Schmitt emphasized her role in addressing these issues as critical to restoring DOJ credibility.

Tackling the Deep State

Schmitt’s demands align with Trump’s broader goal of dismantling the unelected “deep state.” House Republicans, through their select committee on government weaponization, have also focused on investigating and preventing future misuse of federal agencies. Schmitt called this a necessary step to ensure the DOJ returns to its primary mission of law enforcement rather than political interference.
