- Americans increasingly believe President Donald Trump was not responsible for the Jan 6, 2021 unrest at the U.S. Capitol, according to a Pew Research Center study published Tuesday.
- The survey shows 35% of Americans believe that too much attention has been paid to the incident.

BIPARTISAN AGREEMENT TRUMP NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR JAN 6 UNREST INCREASING:
- The proportion of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who believe Trump held “a lot” of responsibility for the riot declined 8%, from 18% to 10%.
- The proportion of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents declined by 11%, from 81% to 70%.
BACKGROUND:
- 65% of Republicans say that there has been too much attention paid to the riot, with 22% saying it has received the right amount and just 12% saying it has received too little, according to Pew.
- 48% of Democrats say too little attention has been paid to the events of Jan 6, 41% saying the amount of attention has been about right and just 11% saying it has received too much attention.
- “Nearly eight-in-ten Republicans (79%) say they have little or no confidence in the fairness of the Jan. 6 committee’s investigation, including about half (46%) who say they have no confidence at all,” Pew goes on to note.
- “Democrats’ confidence in the committee’s fairness is more equivocal. About two-thirds of Democrats (65%) say they are at least somewhat confident that the investigation is fair and reasonable, with 27% saying they are very confident.”
