Fetterman Again Breaks from Dems to Reject War Powers Resolution

Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) said on Wednesday that he will not support a forthcoming war powers resolution surrounding U.S. strikes on Iran.

“We have to stand [with] our military to allow them to accomplish the goals of Epic Fury,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity. “I’m old enough to remember we used to root for our military, and we would all agree that Iran is the world’s leading terrorism underwriter.”

“Everything that’s happened so far has made the world safer, and now we are in a position to finally finish it this way, with these kinds of important negotiation points,” Fetterman said.

“Every single thing Iran done and is is a war crime,” he added, saying the United States is the “force of good in the world and … now, we’re not even 40 days into this. And now I’m reading that they’re going to force another war powers vote, and I will vote against that, because we have to stand by our military and allow them to accomplish the goals of Epic Fury.”

At another point in the interview, Fetterman declared, “If you want to talk about a war crime, you know, Iran is a 47-year-old war crime.”

Fetterman’s comments come as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said the upper chamber will vote on the resolution next week. Discussing the resolution and President Trump’s actions in Iran, Schumer told reporters, “All of this happens when one man, especially a man acting as unhinged as Donald Trump, has unchecked power to wage war. He backs himself into a corner with dangerous, escalating rhetoric. The entire world holds its breath, wondering what’s next going to come out of his mouth.”
