A traffic stop on Interstate 5 near San Clemente resulted in the discovery of 105 pounds of fentanyl, hidden in cellophane-wrapped packages in a vehicle’s trunk.
U.S. Border Patrol agents, aided by a K-9 unit, found the drugs during a secondary inspection after stopping a suspicious sedan.
“Transnational Criminal Organizations continue to threaten our communities by bringing dangerous narcotics such as fentanyl into our country,” San Diego Sector Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel said.
The driver, a U.S. citizen, was taken into custody, and the narcotics were turned over to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for prosecution, while the vehicle was seized by CBP.
