Federal Inmate Captured After Prison Escape in Philadelphia

A dangerous federal inmate has been recaptured after nearly a week on the run following his escape from a Philadelphia prison. Keith Freeman, 30, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals at a residence on the 2400 block of Nicholas Street on Thursday morning.

Freeman attempted to evade capture by hiding under a pile of clothes, but deputy marshals quickly located and arrested him. He has since been returned to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, ensuring that he is no longer a threat to public safety.

Authorities say Freeman managed to break out of the Kintock Group facility on the 600 block of E. Luzerne Street by scaling two separate fences. His escape raised serious concerns about security measures at the facility.

Freeman was serving a 96-month sentence for weapons possession, a charge stemming from his involvement in criminal activity. His reckless escape highlights the urgent need for stronger security measures and stricter enforcement of sentencing to prevent dangerous criminals from re-entering society before their time is served.

Earlier last month, an inmate died following a series of drug overdoses at a Maricopa County jail, with 12 incidents reported in one week.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), all overdoses occurred at Estrella Jail. Sheriff Jerry Sheridan provided details, stating the first incident took place on February 6, when eight inmates showed signs of overdose. The latest incident happened around 1:00 a.m. on February 14, involving four inmates—one of whom later died.

In both cases, detention officers discovered fentanyl inside the facility. Sheriff Sheridan explained that a plastic bag containing approximately seven to eight grams of fentanyl was recovered after an inmate removed it from her body cavity and handed it over to officers. Additionally, detention officer Barbara Herrera found more fentanyl inside an inmate’s cell.
