No evidence there was an organized plot by Trump supporters
The FBI has found no evidence that Roger Stone, Alex Jones or any prominent supporters of president Trump were involved in the infiltration of the US Capitol building on January 6, according to law enforcement sources.
Reuters reports that “four current and former law enforcement officials” briefed on the matter have confirmed there is no evidence that there was an organized plot to overturn the election outcome.
The report notes that one source commented of the individuals identified at the Capitol on the day, “Ninety to ninety-five percent of these are one-off cases… Then you have five percent, maybe, of these militia groups that were more closely organized.”
“But there was no grand scheme with Roger Stone and Alex Jones and all of these people to storm the Capitol and take hostages,” the source clarified.
Reuters describes Stone and Jones as “allies” of President Trump.
The FBI sources do claim that “cells of protesters” with the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys groups, “had aimed to break into the Capitol,” but admit that there was no evidence of any prior planning of what to do if they did get inside.
Reuters also notes that a Democratic congressional source confirmed lawmakers have been briefed on the FBI findings and regard them as “credible.”
Democrats are set to “investigate” the events, and a congressional committee has been formed. They will reportedly take the FBI’s findings into consideration.
The FBI findings dovetail with what footage from the day revealed long ago, that Alex Jones was actively trying to discourage people from storming the building.
