Ex-CIA Director Pushes 25th Amendment Narrative

Former CIA Director John Brennan said over the weekend that he believes the 25th Amendment was written with President Trump “in mind.”

“I think the 25th Amendment was written with Donald Trumps in mind, because allowing someone like this to continue to be the commander-in-chief and to control the tremendous capabilities of the U.S. military, including our nuclear weapons capability, which he seemed to allude to when he said he’s going to just eliminate a entire civilization,” Brennan said during an interview with MS NOW’s Ali Velshi.

“Again, we really are in very, very troubling times,” he added.

Several Democrats have called for Trump to be removed under the 25th Amendment. Sharing a reported letter from President Trump to Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Democratic Representative Yassamin Ansari (AZ) wrote on social media, “The president of the United States is extremely mentally ill and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason — we need to invoke it immediately.”

Senator Ed Markey (D-MA) also called for President Trump’s removal from office over the same exchange. Sharing a headline of a New York Times article on the subject of President Trump and Greenland, Markey wrote, “Invoke the 25th Amendment.”

Representative Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-CA) shared the same headline and similarly wrote, “Donald Trump is unfit to lead and clearly out of control. Invoke the 25th Amendment.”

Brennan, who led the CIA from 2013 to 2017, has faced years of scrutiny over his role in the Russia collusion investigation that consumed the early years of the Trump administration. Critics have long alleged that Brennan used his position to push intelligence assessments that fed the narrative that Trump had colluded with Russia, a claim the Mueller investigation ultimately failed to substantiate.
