During the international Summit for a New Global Financing Pact held in France from June 22-23, 2023, European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde unabashedly laid the blame for inflation at the feet of so-called “climate change.”
The ECB is the central bank of the European Union countries, responsible for maintaining price stability, implementing economic and monetary policies, and authorizing euro banknote issuance. It is governed by EU law with capital owned by the central banks of EU member states.
The recent gathering, aimed at crafting an alliance between northern and southern nations, seemingly took a turn towards globalism, centralizing power, and controversial climate change narratives.
The ECB President even drew a startling link between climate change and inflation.
With no apparent hesitance, she stated: “Climate change affects inflation. And inflation is the beast that all central bankers, whether they wear a green jacket or not, want to tame and discipline. Number two, because it affects our balance sheets, whether it’s a 3 trillion or a 7 trillion balance sheets, it is affected by climate change.”
This bold claim was made without offering a scientific basis for such an assertion.
Lagarde continued her controversial discourse, painting a grim picture of climate change’s impact, asserting, “The past eight years have been the warmest on record worldwide and the critical 1.5 C threshold for annual temperatures will likely be exceeded in at least one year before 2027.”
She further pointed to “extreme weather events” as evidence, a common strategy among mainstream climate change advocates.
She placed the burden of action on future generations, arguing that developing nations bear the brunt of global warming’s impact.
“Developing nations are already the hardest hit by the impact of global warming,” she asserted. “More than 90% of those who have perished owing to extreme weather events during the last half-century lived in these countries, where more than 70% of reported disasters occurred.”
“The path forward is clear: we must forge ahead with a global transition to ensure our economies are future-proof,” she declared. “This means not only reducing greenhouse gas emissions to net zero and adapting our economies to shield them from climate change, but also tackling the root causes of the severe destruction of nature that is threatening the vital resources we rely on for our survival.”
